Nishant Sharma Makes History With Third Poker Dream Main Event Title in 2024
Live poker in India has been enjoying a steady rise in popularity and several well-known poker pros have emerged. Seven players have earned WSOP bracelets with Nipun Java leading the way as three-time champion.
A different kind of three-peat has unfolded in the live poker circuit in the current year as Nishant Sharma has achieved a quite remarkable feat. During the ongoing year, he has won not one or two but an incredible three Main Event titles on the rising Poker Dream live poker series.
Triple Crown For Nishant Sharma AT Poker Dream Main Event
Nishant Sharma’s success story has propelled his overall cashes in live poker tournaments to more than $1 million according to The Hendon Mob database and he skyrocketed into tenth place of his country’s ranking. And that position will be improved upon even further as soon as the results for the latest Poker Dream 13 Malaysia have been submitted as he added another two victories to his resume.
Early into the series at the new location inside of Genting Highlands outside of Kuala Lumpur, Sharma came out on top of Event #16 Mystery Bounty and cashed for RM 225,000 plus an additional RM 16,200 in bounties. However, that was only the forecast of things to follow in the marquee Main Event, which gathered a massive prize pool of MYR 5,264,328 (~USD 1,180,688).
The lion’s share of that was up for grabs on the final table and Sharma lifted the stunning Main Event trophy for the third time in 2024, claiming the top prize of MYR 930,800 (~USD 208,749). In terms of prize money earned, that was only his second-biggest score after his deep run in the 2018 WSOP Main Event all the way to 34th place, for which he earned $230,475.
In May 2024, Sharma topped a field of 752 entries in the Poker Dream 10 Vietnam Main Event at the Hoiana Hotel & Golf in Hoi An after defeating local player Quoc Phu Ngo in heads-up play. Ngo had to settle for a consolation prize of VND 2,734,647,000 (~USD 107,934) while Sharma earned the top prize of VND 3,756,953,000 (~USD 148,283) back then.
The next Poker Dream stop took place back in Malaysia and a huge field of 2,013 entries propelled the prize pool to MYR 6,807,305 (~USD1,526,885). Yong Chin Chong was the last local player to aim for the trophy but could not overcome Sharma en route to victory, who earned back-to-back titles! The second triumph in a row came with a payday of MYR 811,629 (~USD 183,517).
Up Next For Poker Dream
Malaysia will also be the location of the next Poker Dream stop in January 2025 and fellow Indian poker pro Dhaval Mudgal already jokingly congratulated to his next victory on the tour’s official Facebook page. Whether or not that will come true remains to be seen, but Sharma has certainly left his mark in the Asia-Pacific live poker scene in the current year.
