APPT Manila Championship: Mike Takayama, Rene Mar David, Fujita Haruma Among Winners
Day 9 of the PokerStars LIVE APPT Manila Championship 2024 has come to a close! In the beginning, this epic series highlighted that it would be giving away over ₱152.5 million ($2.7 million+) guaranteed across a variety of events that would be played between October 18 to 27, 2024, at the Okada Manila. So far, this most-anticipated event has not disappointed with all the “guarantee prize pool events” surpassing their mark to provide even more payouts for the players.
APPT Manila Championship Day 9
Aside from the headliner which you can read about in the SMP News, kicking off the APPT Manila Championship Day 9 was the Mystery Bounty (PHP 2M GTD) which brought 165 entries. With a buy in for PHP 70,000 (~US$ 1,200) this built a prize pool of PHP 3,601,125 (~US$61,500) easily dusting the guarantee.
Second Win For Rene Mar David
The top 23 players were guaranteed a place in the payout circle, but the biggest winner was none other than Rene Mar David of the Philippines, who took home a coveted PokerStars spade trophy and a champion’s cash prize of PHP 988,000 (~US$ 16,800). This was David’s second win this series having shipped Event 1: Superstack at the start of the series.
Another big winner in this event was Vincent Chauve who drew the PHP 190,000 bounty prize. He just missed a victory, finishing in second place.

PokerStars Red Dragon – Day 1B
Day 1B of the PokerStars Red Dragon (PHP 25M GTD) also kicked off today. A total of 260 international entries put in the PHP 70,000 (~US$ 1,200) buy-in to compete for the PHP 25,000,000 (~US$ 428,300) guaranteed prize pool.
The top 39 survivors of the 260 entries bagged their chips to compete again tomorrow for the Day 2 Final along with the 22 other survivors of yesterday’s Flight A.
The top chip leader of Flight B is Chan Truong of Vietnam who bagged 429,000 chips. Malaysian poker pro Joshua Tjan is shoulder to shoulder with 426,000 chips while American Joey Weissman is just a whisper away with 413,000 to round up the top three.

Day 9 Winners
The highly anticipated APPT ONE Million Challenge played its Day 2 today with 14 millionaire entries building a prize pool of PHP 13,172,600 (~US$ 225,000). Only the top three players found their way to the payout circle with the Philippines’ very own Mike Takayama coming out as the champion. Takayama added another PokerStars spade trophy to his collection and took in an additional PHP 6,587,600 (~US$ 112,000) for his coffers.

Fujita Haruma of Japan was crowned the champion of The Ladies Event (Event #50). 41 entries chipped in the friendly fee of PHP 15,000 (US$ 260) to create a prize pool of PHP 524,964 (~US$ 9,000). Fujita Haruma took the champion’s share from that prize pool worth PHP 181,964 (~US$ 3,100) to go along with a PokerStars spadie.
Weixuan Wang of China raised the PokerStars spadie as the champion of the 6+ Holdem (Event #51). Wang outlasted a field of 17 entries and also took home a first place payout of PHP 192,230 (~US$ 3,300) from the PHP 445,230 (~US$ 7,600) prize pool.
Naohiro Matsuda of Japan bested a field of 84 entries to become the champion of the Flipout (1 in 7) ITM – Hyper and took home PHP 196,000 (~US$ 3,300) from the PHP 733,320 (~US$ 12,500) prize pool and a PokerStars spade trophy.
Troy McLean of Australia came out on top of 46 entries to win the Showtime Hold’Em Turbo (Event #55) and earned a PokerStars trophy champion’s prize of PHP 202,984 (~US$ 3,400) from the PHP 588,984 (~US$ 10,000) total prize pool. This was Troy’s fourth cash in this series, three were final table berths.
Tomorrow will be the closing day of the series with much more in store. Certainly, there won’t just be a bang, there will be fireworks!
