Main Event Day 2 Recap
Day 2 of the Main Event welcomed 188 runners back on the felt, each in search for a spot into the Final Day. Set to play down to the last two tables, over half the field was already dusted by the second break, with the final rounds beginning to take shape. Several seasoned contenders, of which include previous USOP Main Event champions The Naing (36th) and Ian Lee (106th), remained on the hunt yet fell short of making it through. Bracelet winners William Teoh (60th) and Jinlong Hu (170th), along with Vietnam’s best Dao Minh Phu (80th), likewise joined the rails having been eliminated across the Day 2 battle.
By the eleventh level of the day, action closed with Cao Ngoc Anh’s exit, having been entangled in a blind vs blind battle against running chip leader Julian Warhurst. The Australian runner jumped to the lead early in the games after eliminating Pham Tien Dung with K♦K♣ against the latter’s A♠10♥. Warhurst stacked amongst the highest all the way through, and took the top spot by the time the last three tables were formed. A regular across the Asian circuit, Warhurst remains on the hunt for his maiden Main Event title, with his 8,080,000 (81 BB) advantage putting him in the best position to secure the USOP Hai Phong Main Event victory.
Also advancing through the Final Day games are 2018 WSOP Main Event Runner Up Tony Miles 5,740,000 (57 BB), multi series winner Jianfeng Sun 3,405,000 (34 BB), and lone female contender Nguyen Thi My Phuong 3,905,000 (39 BB).
