APPT One Million Challenge

Another key event in the series calendar was the APPT One Million Challenge Championship, which had a stiff buy-in of PHP 1,000,000 (~US$ 17,100). Not for everyone, this was the second installment with Vamerdino Magsakay as the first ever champion last summer.

The tournament kicked off with six entries building a prize pool of PHP 5,645,400 (~US$ 96,700). The 1,000,000 starting stack gave player plenty of wiggle room that by night’s end, there was only one bust out, Vincent Huang from Australia. The five players still in contention decided to continue the tournament the next day in the hopes that more players would register.

Elias Gutierrez Tops The Counts

Spain’s Elias Gutierrez held the chip lead when play stopped with 3,900,000 chips, which is more than fifty percent of the chips in play. Other contenders are Stevan Chew, Dominik Nitsche, Matthew Wakeman, and Chan Truong.

Other APPT Manila Championship Winners

In other APPT Manila Championship side events, Jennifer Cassell of Australia topped 65 entries and bagged the championship of the Double Stack (Event#41). She took home a coveted PokerStars spade trophy and a champion’s share of PHP 417,100 (~US$ 7,100) from a prize pool of PHP 1,387,100 (~US$ 23,700). Cassell has already made four cashes in other events in this series, but none sweeter than this championship win.

In the Superstack (Event #45), it was Gun Jegal who outlasted 90 entries that made the PHP 30,000 (~US$ 515) buy-in to build a PHP 2,357,100 (~US$ 40,400) prize pool. Jegal won the champion’s share of PHP 629,100 (~US$ 10,700) accompanied by a coveted PokerStars spade trophy.

Other poker tournaments will continue to be offered tomorrow with over PHP 152.5 million (~US$ 2.7 million) guaranteed in varied events throughout the series.
