WPT Cambodia Passport To WC Latest Winners: Colin Taliwanth, Shaun Conroy, Kritphon Kobboonchote, Somashekar Nahadeva, Erik Rozhynskyi

The World Poker Tour’s – WPT Cambodia stop continues to prove itself as one of the choice hunting grounds in Asia as players representing different flags walk away as the latest champions. In partnership with Connaissance Management Group, the brand’s Passport To The World Championship festival kicked off on July 12 and runs until July 23 at NagaWorld Integrated Resorts in capital city Phnom Penh. After three days of games, eight players have already been minted. Here are the newest champions including other event updates.

One Hand Flip Winner For Colin Taliwanth

Flying all the way from South Africa for his first poker trip to Asia, Colin Taliwanth grinded his way to the final three of the Championship Warm Up and claimed the win after a three-way one-hand flip with Jinlong Hu and Xiaosheng Zheng. Taliwanth earned an ICM deal payout of $24,464, a WPT Prime Championship seat worth $1,100, and his first WPT trophy.

The Championship Warm Up was the first key event of the festival running on July 12 to 14, 2024 with three starting flights attracting 398 entries. This built a prize pool of $193,030 with 50 players earning their share.

Day 2 opened with 76 runners hunting down the cash which was reached at the fall of Stanislav Kovalenko whose set was behind Haile Kuo’s flush. The day’s entering chip leader James Brooks continued to be one the day’s early movers and navigated to the final table eventually finishing in 8th place.

China’s Mingcheng Zhang carried in the largest stack to the final table which he earned via multiple takedowns including a massive pot against Shaohua Luo with full house over trips. Zhang finished in 6th place.

Vietnamese high roller Quang Huy Nguyen impressed once again, climbing from just 13 bb at the start of the day to chip leader until he was stopped in 5th place. Just as impressive was Taliwanth who doubled up numerous times and cracked Dmytro Lytvynov’s pocket Aces to sneak into the final table with just 10 bb.

Grinding to stay alive, Taliwanth held his own to reach the final three alongside big stacks Jinlong Hu and Xiaosheng Zheng. An ICM deal was immediately struck and a one-hand flip to determine the champion. Taliwanth landed trips eights for his career first WPT title.

PLO Specialist Shaun Conroy Overcomes Swingy Heads Up At PLO

PLO specialist Shaun Conroy secured his first ever WPT title at the Pot Limit Omaha event after outlasting the 97 entry field for a payout of $5,021. Shortly after Michael Lindstrom delivered the bubble burst the final table was formed with Conroy backed by a commanding stack. This saw no change until heads up was reached against Danielle Noja who was on his Asia debut.

With both gunning for the win, the tables turned when Noja doubled up with nut flush over Conroy’s straight. From there, it was pound for pound with both players swinging. Conroy surged ahead after a successful bluff on a board that saw Noja tank-fold. Conroy closed it out with flush on a board .

Kritphon Kobboonchote and Erik Rozhynskyi Win Turbos

Turbo events bring in plenty of excitement with players challenged by the time constraints. On Day 2, Thailand’s Kritphon Kobboonchote emerged as the Hyper Turbo champion after outlasting the 33-entry field. Kobboonchote is a newcomer to the Asian live circuit with just one cash to his name. He earned the $2,887 top prize and WPT merch to boast the victory.

On Day 3, Ukraine’s Erik Rozhynskyi topped the Deepstack Turbo’s 62-entry field to clinch his first title on Asia soil. With many accomplishment and deep runs in his portfolio, this was Rozhynskyi’s first WPT title. Along with the trophy he walked away with a payout of $10,825.

Somashekar Kurkhepally Nahadeva Knocks Out 14 Players At The Bounty

Crowd favorite Bounty Event turned up 180 runners with India’s Somashekar Kurkhepally Nahadeva keeping his head high above to lock up the win and a payout of $8,136. In addition, Nahadeva knocked out a whopping 14 players and kept his own bounty to add another $1,500 to his winnings. This was Nahadeva’s second WPT Cambodia Bounty title with a first victory back in 2022.

Update: Megastack High Roller – Final 6

The Megastack High Roller attracted 40 entries at $2,200 a piece for a prize pool of $77,600. The money bubble burst on Adrien Berger with Ace-King rivered out by Andrew Hinrichsen’s Queen-Ten with a queen on the river. Shortly after, the players bagged up after Sorawit Suriyakarn was eliminated in 7th place.The final 6 return on July 15 at 11:30am to hunt down the top prize of $26,373.
