139 entries (85 unique) ponied up the VND 80,000,000 buy-in to generate a prize pool of VND 9,707,760,000 (~$ 382,195), surpassing the VND 2.5 Billion guarantee. The first day played sixteen (16) 40-minute levels with 28 players qualifying to return for today's final day in the Corona Theater at the Corona Resort & Casino.

Only 20 players would be guaranteed a share from the prize pool, and on the 20th level, the bubble burst on Si Ng Pun when he was eliminated by the straight flush of Jennifer Cassell, allowing for the remaining 20 players to earn a minimum payout of VND 130,080,000 (USD 5,120).

THE FINAL TABLE

The final table was formed three levels after when Vietnam's own Toan Chan Truong busted out at 10th place when he ran into the set of Jason Lau.

In the final table, Phanlert Sukonthachartnant became the first casualty after starting the day as the chip leader. Sukonthachartnant failed to defend his short-stacked big blind and earned a 9th place finish of VND 232,990,000 (USD 9,170), nudging his total earnings towards the USD 1.6 million mark.

Australian Yita Choong became the first of three Aussies in the final table to fall when he was outdrawn on the flop despite having the better pre-flop hand. Choong played well, but only managed an 8th place take-away of VND 300,940,000 (USD 11,850). Choong made three final table appearances in this series and moved his total winnings to nearly USD 2.8 million.

The next Australian to make an exit was Jennifer Cassell, who was hoping to earn another title after taking down the APT Phu Quoc Women's Event, but had to settle for a 7th place finish and share of VND 406,760,000 (USD 16,015) to push her career live earnings to nearly USD 370,000. Cassell's run ended when her pocket sevens ran into the pocket jacks of Nevan Chang.

Japan's Hayato Kitajima had his luck run out at 6th place when his dominating hand of A♣ Q♠ lost to the Q♦ J♠ of Nevan Chang after the latter caught a jack on the flop to win it. Kitajima took home a paycheck of VND 542,660,000 (USD 21,365) for his efforts to inch closer to the USD 700,000 milestone in his total live earnings.

China's Guo Biao made his biggest career cash at 5th place for VND 692,160,000 (USD 27,250) after his pocket sixes were outdrawn by Jason Lau's straight.

Sean Ooi had a fun and deep run, but his "all-in" shades couldn't help him when Lau's dominated hand paired on the river. Ooi was the last Australian to bust from the final table, taking home his share of VND 862,050,000 (USD 33,940) to add to his USD 1.2 Million in total live earnings.

India's Amit Kaushik also ran into some misfortune when his pocket eights were cracked by Lau's pocket sevens. Kaushik was ahead until Lau turned a set, sending Kaushik to the payout cage to collect VND 1,043,580,000 (USD 41,085) and pushing his total career winnings to nearly USD 600,000.

HEADS-UP

Malaysia's Jason Lau had a 4-to-1 advantage against Taiwan's Nevan Chang to start the heads-up battle, but Chang slowly crawled his way back to almost make things even. Eventually, in just over half-an-hour, both players were on a pre-flop flip with Chang's Q♥ J♦ unable to overtake the A♥ Q♣ of Lau. Chang earned a runner-up prize of VND 1,582,360,000 (USD 62,300) to boost his total winnings to over USD 2.2 million.

Jason Lau was then finally crowned as the APT Phu Quoc High Roller champion after 5 final table attempts in this event. Lau took home the rose gold APT Lion Trophy and a grand prize share of VND 2,329,880,000 (USD 91,730), marking the biggest cash of his career and improving his total live earnings to nearly USD 350,000.

Lau confessed that he had to miss the flight with his wife to play in the final table. However, he did promise to make it up to her with her birthday just passing yesterday. Certainly, there will be a lot more to celebrate than just the birthday.

After 5 final table appearances at APT High Roller events, Jason Lau has finally made it as the last one standing to win the title, a gorgeous bronze APT Mega Lion Trophy and the champion's prize of VND 2,329,880,000 (USD 91,730).

Jason Lau outlasted a total of 139 entries, defeating Nevan Chang as his last hurdle to take down the title.

“I mean, this event has been very special for me, this is my fifth final table for this event, and obviously the third one back-to-back from Taipei, Manila, and now Vietnam, which is my home, so it’s a much more special meaning for me to win it here,” an elated Lau stated in his post-match interview with APT host Greg Liow.

“It was actually my wife’s birthday yesterday so I definitely need to make up for it,” Lau confided with a chuckle.

“She’s already back in Saigon, but I will go back tomorrow and definitely celebrate very well. I really thank her for supporting me all this while,” Lau concluded before posing for his well-deserved winner’s photo.

Jason Lau of Malaysia will be going up against Nevan Chang of Taiwan in the final heads-up battle for the APT High Roller title and the top prize of VND 2,329,880,000 (USD 91,730).

NO DEALS ARE ALLOWED, so the two will be fighting it out with the official payouts in mind.

The runner-up will earn VND 1,582,360,000 (USD 62,300).

Lau has been in five APT High Roller final tables, three back-to-back, and has vowed to finally win this one. Whatever happens, Lau's total live earnings will jump to over USD 300,000.

Chang was the chip leader for most of the final three tables and had to surrender his chips to Lau.

Chang will need to win them all back despite the 4:1 disadvantage.

Chang made a third place finish in Event 5: NLH Hyper Turbo High Roller earlier in this series, and while he already made an improvement in this final heads-up, an APT title will certainly be a better ending.

After a couple of hands of exchanging chips among players, Jason Lau raised from the small blind and Toan Chan Truong shoved all in for 325,000 from the big blind. After checking his cards again, Lau dropped in a call to put Truong at risk.

Action folded to the blinds when small blind Sean Ooi shoved all-in for 765,000 with Q♣ J♦ Nguyen Duy Thuc called for his last 525,000 holding K♠ Q♥

Thuc was dominating pre-flop and led with top pair when the flop came 2♠ 9♥ K♥ . The 6c was promising for Thuc to win, but the T♥ river thrown by the poker gods gave Ooi a gut-shot straight to take down the pot and take out Thuc from the event.

The former chip leader just couldn't win a flip, and his stack just kept on going down and down until the final showdown loss sent him out at 11th place for a decent pay of VND 194,160,000 (USD 7,645).

Yita Choong shoved all-in for 355,000 from under the gun with K♣ T♥ Nguyen Duy Thuc called with K♥ Q♥ for a showdown.

The flop came 7♣ K♠ 9♣ with both players hitting their top pair. The 8♣ on the turn gave Choong 12 live outs. The river 5♣ improved Choong to a flush and damaged Thuc again.

Being the shortest stack at the table, Toan Chan Truong shoved all in from the cutoff for 325,000 and was called by Nevan Chang from the small blind to put him at risk.

Yita Choong shoved all-in for his last 115,000 from the cut-off with 2♥ 2♦ . Biao Guo re-popped all-in for 1,400,000 on the button to isolate, holding J♦ T♣

The flop of 5♠ K♣ 9♥ maintained the lead for Choong and the turn 6♠ and river 7♦ directed the win to Choong and shipped the pot his way for a double-up.

Ooi then shoved all-in for 525,000 and Thuc called.

Ooi made a crucial double up while Thuc's stack went from chip leader to critical condition in a few hands.

Nguyen Duy Thuc raised to 80,000 on the button wtih A♥ J♣ and Amit Kaushik defended the big blind with K♦ Q♣ The flop came 2♥ T♣ 6♥ .

Both checked to see a free K♠ on the turn. Kaushik check-raised the 60,000 bet of Thuc to 200,000. Thuc completed to see see a J♦ river.

Kaushik bet 225,000 and Thuc answered with an all-in for 1,400,000, covering the stack of Kaushik.

Kaushik went into deep thought, wondered if there were aliens among us, took a peek again at his cards, then the board and threw in a chip to signify a call.

Kaushik's brave call gave him a huge pot to take him to the chip lead on the featured table and maybe the tournament.

Manh Cuong Bui shoved all in for 235,000 from the cutoff and Hayato Kitajima dropped in a call to put Bui at risk from the big blind.

The flop of 5♣ Q♥ T♣ paired Teoh and the turn Q♠ gave him a set to leave Chang drawing dead. The dealer threw in the 3♦ on the river as a formality before shipping the double-up pot Teoh's way.

In the next hand, Nevan Chang jammed from the small blind with K♣ Q♦ and William Teoh defended from the big blind with A♥ K♥ .

Nevan Chang has been jamming his big stack on the bubble to increase his stack by scooping blinds.

Chang jammed again with 4♣ 3♦ , but this time Toan Chan Truong risked his tournament life as the bubble, calling with A♥ J♠ and putting his last 151,000 in the middle.

The flop came 2♦ 5♦ 8♣ keeping Truong ahead, but giving Chang an open-ended straight draw that brought some oohs from spectators.

The turn showed a Q♣ and the river dealt a 9♦ to double Truong and nip a little bit from Chang's big stack.

One more out to go before the top 20 make it in the money! Hand-for-hand play now in effect.

Toan Chan Truong just called on the button and Guo Biao checked his option on the big blind for a friendly peek into a flop of 3♣ 9♣ A♣ .

Truong, with A♦ 2♥ , hit top pair, but Biao had a confident flush draw with Q♣ 4♥ with hole cards. Biao check-raised the 25,000 bet of Truong to 60,000. Truong matched to see a 2♣ on the turn.

Truong improved to two-pair, but Biao completed his flush. Biao led with 75,000 and was called by Truong to see the final J♠ on the river.

Biao bet out 250,000 and Truong made the call, unable to get away despite seeing four clubs on the board.

One three-way, all-in hand just played out, resulting in one elimination.

A 9♥ hit on the river, where Kaushik led out for 100,000, sending Nguyen into the tank. After around 2 minutes, Nguyen dropped in a call.
