Sergei Korzhenko

Flight B of the VND 36M APT Main Event has concluded with 204 entries (156 unique) generated following six 45-minute and four 60-minute levels, with 66 players bagging up their chips and coming back for Day 2 on Thursday, Nov. 14th.

Russia's Sergei Korzhenko sits at the top of the leaderboard after consistently chipping up throughout the day. He will start Day 2 with 372,300 chips. For a few levels of the day, he could be observed engaging in exciting battles with fellow big stack Nang Quang Nguyen who was sitting on his left.

The Vietnamese professional, with over USD 1 million in live earnings, ended the day second in chips, bagging 323,000. The podium of Flight B was completed by the China's Kaihua Huang with 306,200 chips. Kannapong Thanarattrakul

One player who will certainly be excited for Day 2 of the Main Event is Vietnam's own Pham Thanh Nghia. In one of the last hands of the day his pocket queens helped him to finish with 235,600, which puts him into the top 10 chip counts.

A nationality that will be represented well on Day 2 is Thailand with ten players in Flight B making it through. Both Phanlert Sukonthachartnant (171,300), and Kannapong Thanarattrakul (152,200) are two players to look out for on Thursday, sitting in #4 and #2 respectively on the Thailand All-Time Money List.

Other notables to make it through include Singapore's The Naing (139,500), Australia's Yita Choong (121,000), Cypriot bracelet winner Georgios Skarparis (97,100), Sweden's Mikael Andersson (88,800), and the Philippines' David Erquiaga (43,800).

Thanarattrakul Expands His Stack to Average Size as Day Draws to a Close

Level 10: 600 / 1,200 ante: 1,200
Kannapong Thanarattrakul

Action picked up with Kannapong Thanarattrakul all-in for 60,000 on a completed board: 2 T A 6 8 , with nearly 40,000 already in the pot. Long Zhentao was deep in thought as the tournament director announced that only five hands remained before the end of the day. After careful consideration, Zhentao decided to fold, left with almost his starting stack.

With everyone eager to build their chip stacks before the day concluded, Thanarattrakul pushed the action further on the third-to-last hand. On a turn of T 8 9 J , Thanarattrakul bet the pot for 11,000, and Tran Ahn called.

Then on the river, 2 , Thanarattrakul moved all-in with a 60,000-chip tower in the middle, forcing Ahn to make a decision. Ahn took his time, scrutinizing his hand, glancing at Thanarattrakul, trying to decipher what his opponent might be holding. After some thought, Ahn made the call.

Tran Ahn: J 7

Kannapon Thanarattrakul: A Q

Ahn’s straight on the flop was no match for Thanarattrakul's higher straight caught on the turn, which sent Ahn's to hit the rails just short of Day 2.

Level 9: 600 / 1,200 ante: 1,200

Mingcong Chen opened from the hi-jack to 2,400 and got called by Quang Kiem Nguyen. Mikael Andersson in the small blind had other plans and raised the ante to 10,000. Not being able to take the heat, Chen folded. Quang Nguyen called, to see a flop.

Big Stacks Collide Blind Versus Blind

On the A turn Korzhenko checked once more and Nguyen bet out 2,500. The small-blind raised to 11,000 and Nguyen called.

The river 5 went without any action again. Korzhenko let out a small outcry of disappointment as he tabled his 6 6 for a flopped set. Nguyen showed A Q for a missed flush draw and top pair.

Uh-Oh! Nguyen Tan Phuong Does Not Like Folding

Level 5: 200 / 500 ante: 500

Sehoon Yoon opened from early-position and got called by Phuong in late-position, Maris on the button, and Lyu in the big-blind. On a K 9 T flop, Yoon continued with a 2,500 bet and only Phuong called.

The turn brought 4 and Yoon continued his aggression with a 4,000 bet. Phuong called again. The 8 on the river did not scare Yoon and he once more went for a bet, equaling 9,000 chips. Phuong rarely likes to fold, so he first threw in the 9,000 chips, then he threw his cards into the much after Yoon showed. K Q

And indeed, Hoang tabled 5 5 for flopped trips. Kosarev showed A 8 . Unlucky river for him, otherwise he might have gotten away from his hand.

The action started with Sehoon Yoon opening from early-position to 900. Nguyen Tan Phuong called from late-position, same went for Jack Maris in the small-blind and Sung Min Lee in the big-blind.

The flop came down 3 3 3 and the open raiser continued with a 1,500 bet which only got called by Maris. The 3 turn gave both players quads. Maris checked and Yoon fired again, this time for 3,000. Maris called and the river brought the 9 . Maris checked and Yoon gave up as it seemed likely that unlike Yoon, Maris was holding an ace. And indeed he did as he tabled A J .

Nguyen Tan Phuong Doubles Up Twice

Level 3: 200 / 300 ante: 300
Nguyen Tan Phuong

With only a quarter of his starting stack remaining, Nguyen Tan Phuong needed a double-up to stay alive in the tournament.

Phuong opened under-the-gun for 900 and was called by Bharti Harsh in the big blind. The flop came down 2 9 2 .

Phuong checked to Harsh, who bet 300. Phuong called, and both players checked the K turn. On the river, the 6 fell, and Phuong let Harsh lead out with a 1,200-chip bet.

Phuong then raised to 4,900. Harsh called, only to see Phuong reveal a boat—three deuces and two sixes—crushing Harsh’s hand. Harsh mucked, and Phuong scooped the pot with a smile.

A couple of hands later, Dinh Tien Thanh opened to 700 in middle position and received three calls—Harsh on the button, Nguyen Tan Phuong in the small blind, and Mikael Andersson in the big blind.

The flop came down 2 6 4 . Phuong led out for 1,900, and Andersson called, while Harsh and Thanh folded, leaving the blinds heads-up.

The turn brought the T , and Phuong fired again, this time for 2,200. Andersson raised to 40,000, putting Phuong’s remaining stack at risk and forcing him to go all-in.

Nguyen Tan Phuong: 8 8

Mikael Andersson: 5 4

The river came down 6 , giving both players two-pair. However, Phuong’s eights topped Andersson’s fours, earning him the pot and a crucial double-up. With this boost, Phuong now had enough chips to continue building his stack and stay in the tournament longer.

First Elimination of the Day

Ma Li

After losing most of his chips in the previous hand, Tin Tran Hoang tossed his remaining 800 chips into the pot following Li Ma's button open for 500. Ma called.

Tin Tran Hoang: 9 7

Li Ma: K K

Hoang’s hopes dimmed the moment the hands were revealed. The flop landed J 4 J , giving Ma two pair on a paired board and leaving Hoang's chances even slimmer.

The turn 8 offered a glimmer of hope with a gutshot draw, but the river 4 sealed his fate, ending his main event journey short but not necessarily sweet.
