-Anson Tsang’s Career –
Tsang has a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He found poker in his college years by coming across the play money poker app Zynga Poker on Facebook. In 2008, he started playing live poker for “real money”.
He got his name on the board in 2009. However, it wasn’t until 2013 where he posted a significant result. Anson Tsangplaced 7th out of 125 entries in the HK$1,000,000 buy-in Guang Dong Asia Millions Main Event for HK$7,150,000 (~US$921,004). Until today, that payout remains to be his single largest live score.
Following that huge payday, Anson Tsang seemed to disappear from the live scene. No winnings were recorded for the next three years. Then in 2017, he re-emerged, coming out strong with 21 deep runs. The largest was 4th place out of 688 players at the Mid-States Poker Tour Deepstack Extravaganza III for a payout of US$220,745. He also cashed three times that year at the WSOP for nearly US$70,000 in winnings. To close out that year, he pocketed € 8,500 (US$92,544) at the PokerStars Championship Prague – €1,100 National Championship event for finishing 5th out of 2,117 runners.
If 2017 was a big year, 2018 was even bigger for Anson Tsang. He cashed in 22 events in various parts of the globe. His first take was at the Aussie Millions. He nearly shipped the A$2,500 No Limit Hold’em Six Max Shot Clock event finishing 3rd out of a field of 252 players. This earned him A$55,280 (US$44,375) and it was the first of seven 5-digit payouts he pocketed that year. He also gained three 6-digit payouts. The biggest shipment was at EPT Barcelona €10,300 Pot Limit Omaha for €151,700 (US$176,680).
Anson Tsang also had a better run at the WSOP that year with seven cashes. His biggest was at the US$10,000 Pot Limit Omaha Championship where he placed 10th out of 476 players for a payout of US$67,210. This became his largest score at the WSOP until the WSOP Europe in Rozvadov where he won the €2,200 Pot Limit Omaha 8-Max for €91,730 (US$105,428). He was the first player from Hong Kong to have won a WSOP bracelet.
2019 was another profitable year for the Hong Kong pro Tsang who profited in three events at EPT Monte Carlo for nearly US$67,000 in combined total winnings.
He cashed at the US$ 10,000 No Limit Hold’em – WPT Aria Summer Championship finishing 8th out of 192 runners and, besides some other WSOP cashes, placed 3rd out of 114 entries of the WSOP US$10,000 Short Deck event for a payday of US$130,482.
Tsang came close to a WSOP Circuit ring at King’s Casino in Rozvadov in October 2009 where he came second in the €5,300 WSOP Circuit Highroller for €44,175. He had a few more close shots with final table finishes at the same festival.
During the Corona online poker period, Anson Tsang managed to capture his second bracelet and a first prize of US$150,460 in the 2020 World Series of Poker Online US$500 Deepstack No-Limit Hold’em (Event #68) on Natural8.
