Sungmin Ha Shines on Day 1b of the Main Event; Nana Nakamura Wins Second Title

Level 16: 3,000 / 6,000 ante: 6,000
Day 1b and new overall chip leader Sungmin Ha

Two of the four starting days for the inaugural Super Cup Seoul Main Event have been completed in the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center. After 77 entries on Day 1a, the second flight attracted another 66 entries to boost the overall field size to 143 entries. When all wrapped up in the late evening, only ten players bagged up and a new overall chip leader has been crowned.

Sungmin Ha turned his starting stack of 30,000 into 541,000, firmly ahead of his nearest two followers Hyukjin Kwon (305,000) and Shizi Xiao (258,000). Dongwook Lee was the only other player to advance with an above-average stack of 227,000 in this flight while Isabelle ambassador Joo Hee "Tina" Oh made it through with 179,000.

Oh was responsible for bursting the bubble when she claimed the remaining chips of Hyunjeong Kim with three active players checking it down. Alan "King Lun" Lau, arguably one of the most notable players in today's field, was among the callers and bagged up the second-shortest stack of 65,000 on Day 1b a few minutes later.

Team Isabelle saw the departures of Yuri Murikami and Jae Young Jeon, Ji Eun Park also bowed out alongside Dabin King for the ladies in the field.

For GGPoker ambassador Nana Nakamura, it was a remarkable day at the tables filled with a roller coaster of emotions. She sneaked into the money as the short stack in Event #8 High Roller and bowed out in third place for KRW 8 Million.

The largest piece of the KRW 36.8 Million prize money was split between two contenders from South Korea in Ji Hwan Kim and Dongmin Kim. They agreed to a deal in heads-up play before battling for nearly an hour for the extra cash prize set aside. Ultimately, only one Kim could pose for the winner shot.

Final Result High Roller

1st Place: Dongmin Kim (South Korea) - KRW 16,400,000

2nd Place: Ji Hwan Kim (South Korea) KRW 12,400,000

3rd Place: Nana Nakamura (Japan) KRW 8,000,000

Nakamura then took a break before jumping into Day 1b of the Main Event where she could not run up a stack and bowed out soon after the dinner break. However, there was another Side Event to shine with Event #11 Freeze Out.

The tournament attracted 33 entries and a prize pool of KRW 21 Million. Nakamura entered the ten-handed final table near the top of the leaderboard and closed out the title right as the bubble for Day 1b of the Main Event burst. For her second victory during the Super Cup Seoul 2024, she collected the same KRW 8 Million as earlier in the day for the High Roller min-cash.

Nakamura will certainly be back in action tomorrow when the final two starting days of the Main Event take place. Day 1c kicks off at 11 a.m. local time before the turbo heat 1d with 20-minute levels unfolds as of 5 p.m. local time. The Isabelle Ladies Event is also scheduled and has been pushed to a 4 p.m. start.

Level 16: 3,000 / 6,000 ante: 6,000
Hyunjeong Kim

Down to the last 16,000, Hyunjeong Kim moved all-in from the hijack. She was called three ways by Hyunki Lee on the button, Joo Hee Oh in the small blind and Alan Lau in the big blind.

The three active players checked down the entire board of 9 9 6 3 8 and the pocket sevens of Isabelle Group ambassador Oh took down the pot to let the Day 1b bubble burst.

Shizi Xiao

Dongwoon Lee raised in the hijack to earn four callers and they checked to Shizi Xiao in the cutoff on the 7 5 3 flop. Xiao bet 20,000 and Hyukjin Kwon then raised larger, forcing out Youngkyu Kim and Lee. Xiao moved all-in and Kwon called.

The top pair and gutshot of Kwon had equity versus the over pair but the J turn and 9 river were blanks.

"Why just call?" Lee asked, referring to the preflop action. Xiao replied "position" while raking in the double near the bubble.

Lee reminded him he was still to act and reluctantly folded, Jeong then called all-in.

The pocket queens found no help on a board of 9 8 4 T 7 while Lee sighed, apparently having folded pocket jacks.

Jingon Kim three-bet an open raise to 35,000 and Sungmin Ha in the big blind then moved all-in with the far superior stack size. It folded back to Kim, he pondered about the next move for a few seconds and called all-in for around 140,000.

Kim groaned when he saw the pocket aces on the other side of the table and could not find any help on the J T 7 flop. The A turn increased his outs from two to four, but the Q river was not among them. Ha's lead ballooned further while Kim bowed out in 15th place with ten advancing.

Oh revealed 9 4 for a missed flush draw and pair of fours, but it was no good against a recent entrant's A 6 for top pair. She still has more than the average stack at her disposal near the end of level six.

Day 1b of the Super Cup Seoul 2024 Main Event Kicks off at 11am!

Level 1: 100 / 100 ante: 100
The Super Cup Seoul 2024 at COEX

The halfway point has been reached for the inaugural Super Cup Seoul 2024 at the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center inside of the Starfield Coex Mall, situated at the heart of one of Seoul's busiest and most glamorous districts. Right outside of the entrance is the Gangnam style statue and fireworks similar to the popular song of the last decade can also be expected on the second floor at "The Platz".

Day 1b of the Main Event will kick off at 11 a.m. local time and poker enthusiasts from near and far are expected to enter the fray. Yesterday's first flight attracted a field of 77 entries and 12 players advanced to the money stages, all set to take home a piece of the KRW 1 Billion in prizes sponsored by Samsung Medicos.

The schedule for the second of four starting days is exactly the same with as many 40-minute levels to be played until the top 15% of the field have been reached. All participants start their journey with 30,000 in chips, which represents 300 big blinds in the opening level. Shall they lose all of them, they can still re-enter until the start of level ten.

By then, they would have 20 big blinds to spin up with and the late registration closes at approximately 6.30 p.m. local time. There will be a break every three levels and a 60-minute dinner break after the end of level nine to path the way today. In the opening flight, the bubble burst towards the end of level 15 and that's a good indication how long things will take tonight as well.

Besides Day 1b of the Main Event, another three tournaments take place today. Day 2 of the High Roller recommences with the nine-handed final table at noon while a Freeze Out Event kicks off at 1 p.m. local time. Last but not least, there is also a Turbo NLHE Event in the evening as well.
